Doug:
I so admire your obsessive dedication to this project of locating and restoring these magnificent old WPA posters. What a meaningful obsessive interest to have cultivated over the years. The video I just watched on this website is 10 years old; I’m wondering now if you’ve since located the two missing posters.
Parenthetically, I’m a former Alaska resident myself–Anchorage–if that can actually be considered Alaska. I first moved there in 1968, and back then the saying was, “Anchorage is only 15 minutes outside of Alaska”. By contrast, your authentic log cabin in idyllic Kupreanof is quite obviously the real deal.
From what I’ve read about you and seen in the video, you’ve lived a wonderful and interesting life. Keep up the good work…and thank you for your diligent work bringing these fabulous WPA posters back to life. It’s mind-boggling that they were ever lost and forgotten about in the first place. I sincerely believe that you should be awarded a National Humanities Medal for your work in bringing them back to public view.
Best,
